What are some of the differences in Savate and other martial arts?
In Savate, shoes are worn. The kicks are based on pivots (see blog page), which means that flexibility is not as important. The ranking system goes by glove colors rather than belts. For instance, a Blue Glove is the first rank tested for after a period of training. The highest rank is Silver Glove, which has 3 levels. Also, foot work is of huge emphasis.

Do I need martial arts experience?
Absolutely not! Because the footwork and kicks of Savate
are different, no martial arts experience can make learning
easier than for someone with experience.

Does Savate have grappling or wrestling?
Does Savate have grappling or wrestling?
Lutte Parisienne is an element of Savate. The techniques of Lutte Parisienne are for self defense situations and would get a competitor disqualified in sporting competitions. But the short answer to the question is YES!

Who is Savate for?
Savate is for women, men, youths, and anyone that wishes to be responsible for their own self defense, wants to develop the confidence to do so, improve your fitness level, possibly compete, and have fun learning a great martial art.
How do I start?
First, a complimentary class, session, or consultation to see if Danse De Rue Savate is for you. Second, a requirement to train with us is to join the International Guild of Danse De Rue Savate. From there, a continued dedication to learn is the next step.
